Weary of the same old Italian and French sarnies sold in so many cafes we decided to focus on British flavours. Farmers' markets and artisan producers across Britain inspired some of our scrumptious new combinations and prompted us to revive some British classics, such as flaky eccles cakes and wedges of Victoria Sponge.
We didn’t choose British suppliers in some fashionable attempt to be worthy, but because they just happen to produce brilliant ingredients. Our sarnies include smoked ham from Wick’s Manor Farm in Essex, paired with Quickes cheddar and beer mustard on crusty London bloomer or Capricorn goat's cheese from Somerset matched with Tracklements tomato relish & spinach on granary. All our artisan bread is slathered with creamy butter from Coombe Farm in Somerset or Pollen organics mayonnaise from Hampshire. Our menu changes seasonally so there's no time to get bored and we're constantly scouring the countryside for new and exciting ingredients.
Breakfast, served daily, includes our home made granola or British bacon and spiced tomato ketchup butties alongside our favourite: free-range boiled eggs with marmite or Gentleman's relish soldiers. On weekends we spend hours braising our smoky beans or slow roasting a hunk of pork before piling it, crackling and all, into a floury white bap with a pear and date relish from Cumbria.
On the large wooden communal table you’ll find pots of home made peanut butter, chocolate hazelnut spread, alongside marmalade and gooseberry and elderflower jam from London's best kept secret, England Preserves.
